Why Am I Here?
Is theremore to life than getting an education, carving out a career, finding a partner in marriage, setting up a family, saving up enoughmoney for retirement and finally dying at a ripe old age?
Do you 'just exist' year after year without having answers to these questions?
We look for and pursue after possessions, pleasure, prestige and even power, hoping to find happiness. Genuine long-lasting happiness.
Can we really find true joy and happiness in life?
The answer lies in understanding your purpose in life.
The Bible tells us that there is a God who loves us.
" … yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love." Jeremiah 31:3.
God, who made us, wants us to have a relationship with Him, and enjoy His blessings.
Jesus said, "…I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:10
Our Problem
Man chose to rebel and do things his own way, ignoring God's principles for living.
We may have told lies, cheated, hurt others by our words or lived in immorality.
The Bible calls this attitude sin.
"For all have sinned and fall short of God's glory." Romans 3:23
"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
1 John 1:8
Sin causes our relationship with God to be broken; causing problems in every area of our lives – career, family, finances, health, etc.
"For the wages of sin is death, … " Romans 6:23
After a person dies physically, the sinner is cut off from God,
His goodness and God's presence for eternity, which is eternal death.
The Solution
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16
Our deepest need is God and to have a personal relationship with Him.
Often, we try religion, philosophy or good deeds to make right with God.
All these are good but none of these methods can save us and reconcile us back to God. The Bible tells us there is only one way,
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" John 14:6
Two thousand years ago, God in His great mercy and love emptied Himself of His glory and came in the form of a human being,
Jesus Christ, and personally paid that 'debt' for you and me.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
Our Response
A. Admit that you are a sinner and need to turn from your sins (repentance).
B. Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died to pay for your sins and He is alive today.
C. Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and invite Him to come into your life.
You may pray a simple prayer like this:
Dear Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned against you. Thank you for taking all of my sin upon yourself on the cross. I want to receive your forgiveness. I want to enter into a relationship with you. I ask you to come into my life as my Savior and Lord. Please give me the real life and purpose that comes only from You. I pray this in Your name. Amen.
"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
Welcome To God's Family
Your new relationship with God will bring a real, genuine happiness into your life. You will find a greater fulfillment in your life.
Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
• Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
• Seek fellowship with other Christians. Develop a group of Christian friends to answer your questions and support you.
• Find a local church where you can worship God.
